Picture
After working for over 22 years as a critically-acclaimed writer and award-winning teacher, I am pleased to offer creativity coaching and editorial services. As a writer for children, young adult, and adult audiences as well as a creative writing teacher for grades pre-K through college, I have a deep understanding of the writing process from the first conception of an idea, through drafting and revision, all the way to submission and/or publication.

As a yoga teacher and wellness coach, I am particularly sensitive to the emotional aspect of writing, and I love working with both burgeoning and experienced writers as they hone their skills, develop their confidence, and most exciting of all, find their voice.

  • If you have a project in mind that doesn't quite fit the above parameters but you would like to work with me, send me a message - I'm happy to discuss!

  • Critically-acclaimed writer, published by St. Martin's Press, Penguin/Viking, PillowFort TV, and more
  • M.A. English // M.S. Kinesiology, Integrative Wellness
  • Professor of English and Creative Writing, over 15 years; pre-K, middle school, high school, and college teacher, over 22 years
  • ACE-Certified Wellness Coach and Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), speciality in intellectual and creative wellness
  • The L.A. Music Center's Bravo Award Winning Teacher of the Year

Developmental Read: Any Genre

This process is intended for drafts of work (first, second, or otherwise) when the writer would like overarching feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript as well as reader questions and suggestions for improvement. For fiction, the writer will receive feedback on plot, characterization, voice, dialogue, pacing, and style. The developmental read might lead to a subsequent revision of the manuscript or it might confirm that it is close to ready for publication. Note that I will not proofread closely / or provide copy editing with this read.

  • Developmental Read (Novels or non-fiction, from 40K up to 100K words) $.019/word
  • Developmental Read (Short Stories, Essays, and Articles for 5K to 40K words) $0.019/word

The writer will receive comments within the document as well as a one page letter with feedback and guidance.

Creativity Coaching

Do you have a creative project you've been wanting to tackle? Do you have a work-in-progress that's been sitting in a drawer (or a laptop file) that misses you? Maybe you know that your WIP needs you, but something's keeping you from diving back in? Maybe that something is...fear? Step by step, with you at the center, I will be available to support your creative journey so that you can mindfully step away from fear, ask the important questions, and reignite your creative joy.

This falls under the intellectual dimension of the wellness wheel and merges my work as a teacher, writer, and ACE-certified wellness coach.

I am here to support you as you discover ways to determine what your unique creativity goals are that you want to achieve and to discover ways to succeed and sustain those goals. I will not read or edit your work during these sessions, but I will help provide accountability and creative guidance to support you as you achieve goals and complete your projects.

Write Your Book in Six Months a.k.a. WriMoSixMo

While NaNoWriMo (writing 50,000 words in 30 days) is commendable, it's not realistic for many writers. Personally speaking, I need at least six months to write a solid first draft of a 50,000 word book. (This offering can be applied to fiction or nonfiction.)
In other words, Write More in Six Months!

During our six months together:
  • You will have the opportunity to meet via Zoom or phone call with me three times for 30 minutes each session.
  • Every two weeks, you can submit 2000 words to me, which I will return within two weeks with feedback, suggestions, and questions.
  • You will have the option of spending the first few weeks engaging in activities that help spark your writing and find your stories.
  • I will share my tools of plotting and drafting with you, offering you a roadmap and guidance so that you can start - AND FINISH - your first draft.
  • I will provide accountability and creative guidance to support you as you achieve goals and complete your book.

Think of this as a personalized creative writing class, with one-on-one support.
  • Individual rate: Options include 4-week ($290), 8 week ($580), and 6-month plans ($1600)
  • Do you have friends who are interested as well? I'm available to lead small groups and peer review workshops.
    • Group rate for 6 months: $1500 each for two writers; $1400 each for three writers, $1200 each for four-six writers (& you will have the opportunity to work together)

Add-on: Zoom or Phone Support

A one-to-one Zoom or phone call for $130/hour as a first step, as a source of on-going support, or as an additional service to the above listed services. Perfect for any kind of writer: students, novelists, poets, and more.

Testimonials:
When my son and I first found Katherine to help with his college English class we immediately felt supported and relaxed in her presence. Katherine has a unique way of guiding you, without changing your writing voice, and her editing skills are beyond wizardry. She walks you through all the suggested changes and edits and teaches as she goes so that you learn along the way. He's only completed one essay and he is about to start another, but my son’s writing skills have improved immensely. She is flexible, smart, quick, and easy to work with. I can’t say enough good things about our experience.

                                                                               -Nicky C.
I needed support for completely overhauling the content of my academic teaching portfolio. Katherine not only helped me identify the specific areas to highlight for my portfolio, but she went through my sample artifacts (syllabi, assignments, student samples, personal teaching philosophy statement etc.) with a keen eye and helped me to expand the content, clarify the teaching lens, and edit and reword various chunks of text for consistency and professional but personal tone. My online portfolio ended up becoming a graceful, well-organized and clear series of documents for current and potential employers and for fellowship committees reviewing my bonafides. I am thrilled with the personalized service and the kindness with which the services were given and am especially happy that I booked additional one on one time for in-the-moment questions and guidance. Thank you, Katherine!
